Jacqueline Byrne


Jacqueline Byrne is a clinical psychotherapist and specialist in treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating and body image.


Jacquelineā€™s deepest passion and professional focus is for her work in private practice. Jacqueline has held a thriving Sydney based and globally accessed practice for over a decade where she treats individuals and groups with psychotherapeutic intervention.

Jacqueline is psychodynamically trained, with a Masters in Clinical Psychotherapy. Jacqueline has furthered post graduate studies in narrative therapy approaches to disordered eating, and as part of this research produced a body of work for qualitative narrative analysis of eating disordered experiences which was received with enthusiasm from the practitioner community, and has branched into various bodies of work. Jacqueline leads qualitative narrative research projects in the eating disorder field and has a special interest inĀ bringing more research to eating disorders in the fertility, maternity and post-natal spaces.

With over 15 years of experience in her field and posts including clinical manager of support services for the leading national eating disorder organisation, The Butterfly Foundation, Jacquelineā€™s work in psychodynamic narrative approaches to working with eating disorders has been widely acclaimed. The popularity of her programs in Sydney for The Butterfly Foundation for Eating Disorders has led to a national service being implemented so state based programs may be offered across Australia.

Jacqueline developed, implemented and managed Butterfly Foundation for Eating Disorders e-health initiative ED HOPE national Teleweb program, the first service of its kind in Australia. The ED HOPE service grew nearly 200% under her provision.

Regarded as an expert in her field...


...Jacqueline has been a valued member on the Expert Advisory Board for The Butterfly Foundation and contributes to research projects enhancing quality of life and likelihood recovery of those experiencing an eating disorder.

Jacqueline is also an active member on a variety of boards and organizations including the Qualitative Research in Psychology Initiative, NEDC, ANZEAD, Project HEAL and PACFA.

Jacqueline is a presenter and a facilitator of programs and workshops to people affected by eating disorders. She is a clinical supervisor to teams at leading psychological services.

Jacqueline has featured on ABC radio as a regular expert guest speaker, and presented on the 7.30 report on her expertise in eating disorders. Jacqueline co-costs her own podcast The Sisterhood Downloads and is a regular guest on several popular industry podcasts and You Tube channels.

Jacqueline holds additional qualifications in English literature, creative and professional writing and nutrition. As a writer Jacqueline has many articles, psychology text book chapters, journal contributions and creative writing pieces published.

Jacqueline is known in the industry for her warmth, innovation and hopefulness extending to all individuals she works with.
